PERCUSSION ENSEMBLES - 5 PLAYERS
Sweet - by John Russell $20.00

Instrumentation: snare drum, bass drum, tenor drum, tom-toms, cymbals.
Alternative instrumentation: Dry wall bucket, small plastic bucket, large plastic garage can, two different size paint cans, car brake drum.
This percussion piece was composed in the style of the Broadway show, Stomp. Using drywall buckets, plastic buckets, plastic garbage cans, paint cans, and a car brake drum, this number was designed for use in any music class using repeated patterns for easy learning with all parts equal in difficulty. Normal percussion instruments such as the snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum, torn-toms, and cymbals may be used. Major fun for five to twenty-five players; written for the middle and young high school students.

"Sweet" arrived the other day in good shape, and the students are really keen about it.
Thanks so much for your help!
- Eric T. MacKnight Suzhou Singapore International School

In this ensemble for four percussionists, the composer provides two choices of instrumentation; one with common sound sources (drums and cymbals), and a second using paint cans, plastic buckets and an automobile brake drum. The style is a quick march, full of rhythmic motives, which are passed among the players in the form of statement and answer, or sharing the motive between two or three players. There are also many patterns with changing accents, many on different parts of the beat. These elements make this ensemble quite challenging, even for advanced players. Audiences will really enjoy the version with the paint cans and plastic buckets.
